Operation Take Back
On Saturday, April 30th, 2016, the Wayne Township Police Department in conjunction with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration will be holding the annual “Operation Take Back” in the lobby area of Wayne Police Headquarters from the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wayne residents and the parents of school aged children are strongly encouraged to anonymously and safely dispose of any unwanted, unused and expired prescription medications (pills) at the temporary collection site located at police headquarters.

This one day event will only be held on Saturday April 30th, 2016 between the designated hours of 10:00 to 2:00 and only prescription pills will be collected. For any questions regarding “Operation Take Back”, please contact Detective Sergeant James J. Celentano at 973-633-3550.
Kindergarten Wrap-Around Program Registration Information
At the April 21 regular meeting, the Wayne Township Board of Education APPROVED the Kindergarten Wrap-Around Program. The five schools selected to host this program based on initial survey results of families will be James Fallon, Theunis Dey, Pines Lake, Randall Carter, and Lafayette. Eligible students outside of the host schools will be bused to their projected locations for the FULL DAY.

Online registration via district website will open on Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. and close on Thursday, May 5 at 5 p.m.  Parents will be notified about enrollment no later than May 10.  Please be reminded that the K-Wrap class sizes will be limited to a maximum of 20 students per class, and a lottery system will be used to determine eligibility.  Click here for the Brochure and Flyer.
Reminder - Wayne Community Forum, Tuesday, May 3rd
We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with Mayor Vergano and the Wayne Township Police Department to present the "Wayne Community Forum, Let's Hear from the Kids", an anti-drug initiative designed to provide updated information about the most current drug trends in our area. We hope to see you and your child at this special and informative event on Tuesday, May 3rd, at 7:00 p.m. in the Wayne Hills High School auditorium. A letter with more details has been sent to all parents and guardians of middle and high school students. 2016 Summer Camp Opportunities
The Wayne Education Foundation is pleased to offer their 2016 Summer Camp schedule.  All camps will be held at Wayne Hills High School during the weeks of July 11-15; July 18-22; and July 25-29.  All camps are instructed by certified teachers to provide a higher quality camp experience.

Register early as the classes will close when they reach maximum participants.  There are many fun-filled camps to choose from including Camp Adventure; Instrumental Camp; New Game Development; Art Camps; Mad Scientist; Kindergarten Enrichment; K-12 Interactive Camps, and a 3-week Arts Quest Theater Arts Camp featuring Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.  Click here to view the flyer.  For more information and to download the application and camp brochure, which include frequently asked questions and answers, click here.

The SCMS National Junior Honor Society will host a car wash on April 30 from 9:00 to 1:00.  Get your car cleaned, raise money to support our sustainable school garden, and learn more about environmentally friendly practices.

Safety Town 2016
Safety Town is in need of volunteers for a two-week commitment during the weeks of July 5- July 29, 2016 . The volunteers will assist the Safety Town Teachers with interactive, activity based learning about safety issues for children who are going to enter Kindergarten in the fall of 2016.
Registrations are being accepted online using your Community Pass account.There is a limited number of Volunteers accepted so we encourage you to register soon!  All completed registrations will be approved.   Please register by June 1, 2016. 
 

 
UPDATED! PARCC assessment

The PARCC assessment will be administered from Tuesday, April 12 through Thursday, May 5.  Grade level testing dates are as follows

Grade 6: 4/12-4/14 (ELA, morning), 4/15-4/19 (Math, afternoon)
Grade 8: 4/21-4/25 (ELA, morning), 4/26, 4/27, 4/29 (Math, afternoon)
Grade 7: 5/2-5/4 (ELA, morning), 5/5-5/9 (Math, afternoon)

*Please review the grade-level specific emails that will be sent prior to testing

Governor's Educators of the Year
Schuyler-Colfax Middle School is pleased to announce that Mrs. Diane Meigh and Mrs. Marcine Cirigliano have been selected as Teacher and Educational Specialist of the year.  Nominations were submitted by both parents and colleagues and were reviewed by a committee of stakeholders.  Congratulations to two well-deserving candidates who help make Schuyler-Colfax Middle School a great place to teach and learn!
Updated - Washington D.C. trip
Attention eighth grade parents/students,
We are now accepting the final payment for the Washington DC trip, in the amount of $368.00. This payment is due February 1st on Community Pass.
- Trip insurance is still available for purchase for $21.
- Attached  please find the following forms that must be filled out:
  • Medical Information Form - return ASAP for all students attending
  • Indemnification Form - return ASAP for all students attending
  • Wayne Health Services Form -  for students who need medication (other than Tylenol) return by 4/15/16 filled out by your doctor and with the medication​

Schuyler-Colfax Middle School wins garden grant
Sustainable Jersey for Schools announced the 46 New Jersey schools and school districts selected to receive Sustainable Jersey for Schools small grants funded by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA.) Schuyler-Colfax Middle School was awarded one of eleven $10,000 grants to establish a "Digging in the Dirt" school garden program.  Stay tuned as we  transform our upper courtyards to produce gardens.
